Officially frozen

9:05 PM, Posted by WhiteYoshiEgg, No Comment

Yep, I hereby declare this blog frozen. I will hardly post any more updates, if at all.

Why, you may ask? Well, first of all, there weren't many people following or even reading this blog, making me feel like it's kind of useless. Secondly, I barely posted anything exclusive and new here (I usually post it on SMWC and/or Youtube first), making it even more useless. Another reason is that I want to try not to have so many projects and sites at the same time. I currently have three projects in the works, and ideas for two or three more, and a lot of sites to post my stuff on. This has been feeling really chaotic for me lately, and I want to try organizing things a little more by cancelling the less important projects and sites. This is why I cancelled SMB1 redrawn and my SMWC contest entry, and this is why I'm "cancelling" this blog too.

There *might* be another post or two in the future, but until then, goodbye blog. :(

When I made something that I think is worthy of being showed off, I often show it off too much in my opinion. There are up to five places I (have to) show my stuff - Youtube, one or two threads on SMW Central, my German SMW hacking board, and of course this blog. I must seem pretty attention-hungry, don't I? And when I get all those comments in all these places, I often feel like I got too much attention that I actually don't deserve. On the other hand, I don't want to keep all my projects to myself, and I don't want to keep any of the places I post this less up-to-date than the others.

Just wanted to get that off my chest. Now I just have to post this on Youtube, SMWC etc. ... :P

Anyway, here's what I want/have to show you guys, in case you haven't seen it yet.

Pokey's Adventure - New Title Screen

11:56 AM, Posted by WhiteYoshiEgg, No Comment

Lately, I've been working a bit on Pokey's Adventure again. In fact, I'm kind of re-starting the whole project! This includes tidying up the Map16 tiles, ExGFX, music and pretty much everything else. Organized hacks are much more fun to work with. :D More information can be found in the new hack thread.

Might as well show a screenshot here:

Yep, that's the new title screen. I've changed pretty much everything compared to the title screen in Demo 1 - the title font is bigger, more colorful and more enjoyable to look at in general, the background is ripped from scratch, the decorations look a little nicer and capital letters for "WhiteYoshiEgg" have been added.

That's all for now. As I said, check out the hack thread to be kept up-to-date.

Cutscene Test

Not much interesting stuff to show today. I do have one video, however:

This shows what you can do with Romi's almost-still-new "Variable Width Font" Cutscene Tool. Well, actually it only shows half of what's possible with this tool. If you haven't tried it out for yourself yet, I recommend doing so as fast as possible. You won't regret it! :D

New Channel active

7:35 PM, Posted by WhiteYoshiEgg, No Comment

Mostly just a filler post to keep this blog active.

As you may know, my new Youtube channel "WhiteYoshiEgg" has become active now. I've already uploaded two new videos - might as well show one here:

That's it, actually. If you absolutely want to hear uninteresting stuff: I'm currently trying to port "Bob-Omb Battlefield" from Super Mario 64. Seeing how much my previous porting attempts sucked, you shouldn't expect much from it though. Oh, and I'm still working on the 4th level of A Strange Mission. Yeah, progress has been pretty slow lately - my lack of level design inspiration and custom blocks refusing to work right really decreased my motivation. I was even about to cancel the hack completely, but I recently got a new idea for a level, which I'm really looking forward to making. It doesn't require much ASM, but that doesn't make it less cool in my opinion.

Now that's really it. See ya later.

Recent stuff

Long time no post, eh? There were quite a few things going on lately, I've just been to lazy to post them. :/

First of all, I just selected a new layout for this blog... I don't know why, but I suddenly had the feeling the old layout was way too dark. Also, to clen up the sidebar a little, I moved the label list and the blog archive to the bottom, just in case you're wondering where they've gone.

Secondly, I've decided to semi-cancel SMB1 Redrawn, which you probably know if you read this blog frequently. So, what does "semi-cancel" mean? Simple: I don't plan to work on it in the near future, but it's not impossible that I might continue it someday.
I already relased what I finished so far. You can find its SMW Central thread here.

Also, I created a new Youtube account yesterday. I used to upload all of my SMW hacking videos to "mebamme", but since I've made quite a few videos unrelated to hacking lately (mostly German Youtube Poops), I decided to create a new Youtube account called "WhiteYoshiEgg", where I will upload all of my SMW-related videos from now on. I will upload a video with more information to "mebamme" soon (maybe).

Well, that's it for now. I hope I'll have more interesting stuff to show soon.

C3 stuff part 2 + Pokey's Adventure Announcement

7:10 PM, Posted by WhiteYoshiEgg, No Comment

My third and last C3 project is now finished - it's something graphic-related again. Inspired by this SMW wallpaper, I combined a few SMW backgrounds with each other. The result can be seen here. Okay, it's just two backgrounds, but meh, it's better than nothing.
For those who are too lazy to click the link:

In other news, I have some updates on Pokey's Adventure again. Apart from showing screenshots of levels I finished months ago (._.'), I also posted this:

Since many people complained about the contradictory plot (and I wasn't too fond of it myself either), I thought I could let you decide the plot!
Well, not decide it, but I'd like you to suggest some storylines that make sense, and after some time, I'll choose the one I like best. Only conditon: It must have something to do with Pokey's brothers being kidnapped - I don't feel like redoing the story completely. ;)

I'm probably not that motivated to work on it if the story stuff isn't out of my mind, so I'm waiting for your suggestions. ;)

Feel free to post your suggestions as a comment here, or in the Pokey's Adventure thread on SMWC.

That's all for now... See you!

C3 stuff

Excuse the recent lack of updates... :/

Anyway, SMW C3 (SMW Central Creativity Convention) has started over at SMWC, and I've prepared a few things for it.
First, I've released "The Coin Hunt", which you blog readers have hopefully heard of. I'm too lazy/busy to show screenshots right now - instead, I'll link you to the hack's C3 thread.

LINK

The second project is some kind of Trailer for Not-So-Brutal Mario (which is now officially called A Strange Mission).

Be sure to coment on it in the C3 thread as well! Link.

That's all for now - I plan on making one more thing for C3, but I'm not finished with it yet. Expect it tomorrow or something.

Uh...

Yeah, that's all I've got to say. I had the feeling I should update this blog again, but since I have nothing worthy of showing, this is all you get. A completely uninteresting and pointless post.

Seriously, I haven't been working on my side hacks (or any hacks, for that matter) that much. I mainly focused on making a Yoshi's Island rankset for SMWC, and after that. I guess I can go on hacking again.
On the topic of side hacks: If you don't like the name of my ASM-filled hack, Not-So-Brutal Mario, feel free to vote for a new one!

Also, I actually do have something to show. Not that interesting, but meh:
The fourth level of NSBM, currently in its beta status. I plan on making this a puzzle-ish level, with a bunch of puzzles related to coins (hence the level name, "Coin Palace"). Also, I've got ideas for 3 more levels, whcih should be enough for a mini-hack like this. If you're lucky, I might release it at C3, which takes place on May 9 and 10.

Wow, that was a pretty long post, considering it was just some kind of filler. That's it though.

I'm not dead yet!

Quite the contrary - I've been working on my side projects a lot lately, and I haven't gotten around to posting something. Now that I'm at it, I might as well post some screenshots of what I've been doing:

These are from "SMB1" redrawn, my second side hack. I'm quite satisfied with it so far. :D When it's done, it will contain all of the original SMB1's levels (possibly a few custom ones too), and people can use it as a base for their own SMB-styled hacks. I'm quite confident it'll be ready for SMWCentral's "C3", which takes place in May.

This one's from "Not-So-Brutal Mario", my third side hack (my first one is "The Coin Hunt", which I already showed here). In this short hack, each level will have a different kind of ASM feature. In the first level, you're playing as Yoshi! Nice, huh? You might want to check this thread for more information.

That's it for now, time to get back to hacking...
