F.L.U.D.D.

When I made something that I think is worthy of being showed off, I often show it off too much in my opinion. There are up to five places I (have to) show my stuff - Youtube, one or two threads on SMW Central, my German SMW hacking board, and of course this blog. I must seem pretty attention-hungry, don't I? And when I get all those comments in all these places, I often feel like I got too much attention that I actually don't deserve. On the other hand, I don't want to keep all my projects to myself, and I don't want to keep any of the places I post this less up-to-date than the others.

Just wanted to get that off my chest. Now I just have to post this on Youtube, SMWC etc. ... :P

Anyway, here's what I want/have to show you guys, in case you haven't seen it yet.

Cutscene Test

Not much interesting stuff to show today. I do have one video, however:

This shows what you can do with Romi's almost-still-new "Variable Width Font" Cutscene Tool. Well, actually it only shows half of what's possible with this tool. If you haven't tried it out for yourself yet, I recommend doing so as fast as possible. You won't regret it! :D

Uh...

Yeah, that's all I've got to say. I had the feeling I should update this blog again, but since I have nothing worthy of showing, this is all you get. A completely uninteresting and pointless post.

Seriously, I haven't been working on my side hacks (or any hacks, for that matter) that much. I mainly focused on making a Yoshi's Island rankset for SMWC, and after that. I guess I can go on hacking again.
On the topic of side hacks: If you don't like the name of my ASM-filled hack, Not-So-Brutal Mario, feel free to vote for a new one!

Also, I actually do have something to show. Not that interesting, but meh:
The fourth level of NSBM, currently in its beta status. I plan on making this a puzzle-ish level, with a bunch of puzzles related to coins (hence the level name, "Coin Palace"). Also, I've got ideas for 3 more levels, whcih should be enough for a mini-hack like this. If you're lucky, I might release it at C3, which takes place on May 9 and 10.

Wow, that was a pretty long post, considering it was just some kind of filler. That's it though.

I'm not dead yet!

Quite the contrary - I've been working on my side projects a lot lately, and I haven't gotten around to posting something. Now that I'm at it, I might as well post some screenshots of what I've been doing:

These are from "SMB1" redrawn, my second side hack. I'm quite satisfied with it so far. :D When it's done, it will contain all of the original SMB1's levels (possibly a few custom ones too), and people can use it as a base for their own SMB-styled hacks. I'm quite confident it'll be ready for SMWCentral's "C3", which takes place in May.

This one's from "Not-So-Brutal Mario", my third side hack (my first one is "The Coin Hunt", which I already showed here). In this short hack, each level will have a different kind of ASM feature. In the first level, you're playing as Yoshi! Nice, huh? You might want to check this thread for more information.

That's it for now, time to get back to hacking...

Custom Block: Screen-Scrolling Doors v2

9:03 PM, Posted by WhiteYoshiEgg, No Comment

Another short post that only shows a video and copies the description... Oh well, since this blog's called "SMW hacking in an eggshell" (which is supposed to be a wordplay with "in a nutshell"), it's okay to keep the posts short, I guess.

Anyway...

Description:
I decided to start working on my "Screen Scrolling Doors" again, and it turned out a LOT better than before. Now the screen actually scrolls, Mario disappears while scrolling, and there are no known bugs (so far).
Maybe, just maybe, I will release this, but it consists of 4 different blocks, whcih have to be inserted multiple times to give them different GFX per tile (like the ledge edges and the dirt, which are actually the same block). Also, I haven't made a left-scrolling door yet, but that will probably take up just as much block space...

"A very down-to-earth level" + Overworld Download

I don't feel like describing all this again, so I'll just post the video and copy the deciption from Youtube.

I felt like making some cool ASM stuff again (Yeah, others who are more experienced with ASM probably won't find this as cool, but still). I suddenly had the idea of limiting the amount of Mario's jumps per level, and felt like showing you the result. There are some minor bugs though (Jump sound still plays when you're not able to jump), but I don't think I can fix that. Also, notice the jump counter in the status bar - It took a LOT of time to get this to look right, and I had to move most other counters around to have enough space for it. (Actually, I wanted it to show the number of jumps you have left instead of the number of jumps you already made, but I got a bunch of errors everytime I tried to do that... Oh well.
I might also make an entire (yet short) hack full of ASM hacks if I have enough ideas/ASM skills.

Also, I finished my overworld and submaps for the contest at SMWC quite some time ago. Here's the link. (As I said, I'm not quite satisfied with it, but anyway.)
