Custom Block: Screen-Scrolling Doors v2

9:03 PM, Posted by WhiteYoshiEgg, No Comment

Another short post that only shows a video and copies the description... Oh well, since this blog's called "SMW hacking in an eggshell" (which is supposed to be a wordplay with "in a nutshell"), it's okay to keep the posts short, I guess.

Anyway...

Description:
I decided to start working on my "Screen Scrolling Doors" again, and it turned out a LOT better than before. Now the screen actually scrolls, Mario disappears while scrolling, and there are no known bugs (so far).
Maybe, just maybe, I will release this, but it consists of 4 different blocks, whcih have to be inserted multiple times to give them different GFX per tile (like the ledge edges and the dirt, which are actually the same block). Also, I haven't made a left-scrolling door yet, but that will probably take up just as much block space...

"A very down-to-earth level" + Overworld Download

I don't feel like describing all this again, so I'll just post the video and copy the deciption from Youtube.

I felt like making some cool ASM stuff again (Yeah, others who are more experienced with ASM probably won't find this as cool, but still). I suddenly had the idea of limiting the amount of Mario's jumps per level, and felt like showing you the result. There are some minor bugs though (Jump sound still plays when you're not able to jump), but I don't think I can fix that. Also, notice the jump counter in the status bar - It took a LOT of time to get this to look right, and I had to move most other counters around to have enough space for it. (Actually, I wanted it to show the number of jumps you have left instead of the number of jumps you already made, but I got a bunch of errors everytime I tried to do that... Oh well.
I might also make an entire (yet short) hack full of ASM hacks if I have enough ideas/ASM skills.

Also, I finished my overworld and submaps for the contest at SMWC quite some time ago. Here's the link. (As I said, I'm not quite satisfied with it, but anyway.)

Overworld Contest - Main Overworld

My main overworld for SMWC's contest is pretty close to being finished, and since I felt I should update this blog again, why not show it?

Link, since it's rather big.

Due to my lack of motivation and inspiration lately, some parts look a little bland in my opinion... I can't excatly say what I could have done better though. I honestly don't think I have a chance of winning the contest, considering all those other great overworlds (I never thought there were so many people who could make good OWs), but it's not like winnign is the most important thing ever.
Yes, submaps will some soon... I hope.

(Once the OW's finished, I will post a download link here.)

I don't have much time right now, so I just copy the post from SMWC.

May look like YI, but it's completely custom. :D

Level Design Challenge - Red Wood Ruins

Wow, I haven't posted anxthing in quite a while... About time for an update, I guess. Fortunately I have done something SMW related in the meantime.
Know about the Level Design Contest at SMWC? I'm participating in it. I've already finished my level, called "Red Wood Ruins". Here's the video:

Comments would be appreciated. ;) Oh, and here's the download link.
Also, I'm trying to participate in both of SMWC's overworld contests (A main OW and six submaps). It's not as fun as making a level, so I'm not sure if I'll finish them in time.

2 Custom backgrounds

Yeah, screw the "Post once a day" stuff, I just can't make anything for SMW every day...

Also, copied from SMWC, my custom BGs:

I would've shown pictures, but I'm pretty lazy right now. Just click on the links, will you? ;)

Custom Music - Time Tower

7:06 PM, Posted by WhiteYoshiEgg, No Comment

Phew, I managed to do something post-able today, too. Again, it's a custom song, but this one's a bit longer than my previous songs, and it sounds more "dangerous" as well. As channel #1 kinda makes a "tick-tock" sound, this should go well with clock- or time-themed areas, or castles / towers in general.

Pokey's Adventure - Amapola Waterfall (beta)

Some screenshots of the cave part of "Amapola waterfall" in Pokey's Adventure, just for the sake of showing something today. Yes, I am aware of the major cutoffness, thanks.

Expect to see more of this level when it's fully done.

Custom BG - Forest Mountains

My attempt to make a new post every day day was successful so far. :D Maybe I'll show some new screens of Pokey's Adventure tomorrow.

Anyway, on to the topic: I decided to draw a custom background today, and I'm really satisfied with the result. However, I still think the layout is too simple - I might add some decorations ot texture later. Here's a screenshot of what I have so far:

What do you think?

Custom Music - Calm Beach

Yes, I managed to make something post-worthy today.
As you can see in the title, I've composed a custom song again! It's rather similar to my other songs IMO, but it still sounds really nice.

It should fit a quiet beach overworld (hence the name).
